This credit card application landing page is the first step customers see after receiving a mailed invitation from Merrick Bank. As part of the company's rebranding initiative, the page needed to align with Merrick Bank's new digital storefront, which was close to completion at the start of this project, and support the existing application process.

Unlike many redesigns, this project involved more than updating the interface. Credit card applications operate in a highly regulated industry, requiring specific disclosures and customer information to remain compliant with federal regulations. The challenge was creating a modern, trustworthy experience while working within those requirements.

Throughout the project, I collaborated with multiple business owners and stakeholders to determine where disclosures, customer questions, and required information should appear throughout the application.

After working through questions I would design, then bring it back to business owners, and do some more redesign work. Each of the revisions involved balancing a careful balance of priorities: maintaining compliance, meeting business requirements, and creating a straightforward experience for customers. Much of the content could not be removed or changed, which meant to improve the experience I had to rely on reorganization and style changes to improve presentation of information rather than simplifying it.

Another goal of the redesign was ensuring the application felt like a natural extension of Merrick Bank's updated website rather than a separate product. Since the redesign of the Merrick Bank storefront was already close to launch most of my job was using that new design system as a guide, I incorporated updated typography, color palettes, card imagery, and layout patterns from the storefront. This created a consistent experience for customers moving from the public website into the application.

With the new visual direction established, the focus shifted toward improving the usability of the page itself. Which I don't have time to cover in this case study, but stay tuned to my portfolio when I write about the A/B testing we did after the launch of this application.

This project reinforced that effective UX design is often about working within constraints rather than removing them. Every design decision required balancing user experience, stakeholder feedback, branding, and federal compliance requirements.

By modernizing the application while preserving the existing workflow, the redesign created a more cohesive customer experience that aligned with Merrick Bank's new digital identity. It also strengthened my ability to collaborate across teams, adapt to changing requirements, and design solutions that satisfy both business goals and user needs.
